My Story My Truth Documentary & Discussion

What is the role of race and racism in conflict, in our work with conflict, in our own biases and responses? In the documentary, people of color share stories of how their lives have been impacted by racism and racist actions in an array of contexts, including employment, interaction with law enforcement,  and public accommodations (such as shopping while black). Following the documentary, participants will be guided in a discussion of how those experiences affect people when they come into the legal system to address their disputes, and how as advocates or neutrals, attorneys can be better aware of that impact.

My Story My Truth  will focus on true experiences of racism from African Americans in Minnesota.  In a facilitated conversation directly following the documentary led by the documentary’s producer Nyia Harris, we will unpack our reflections on the documentary and how race and racism is relevant to us and our field of working with conflict.

Socializing & Networking will start at 4PM, CRM’s annual meeting is from 4:30 – 5:30, then we will view the 90 minute documentary followed by a 45 minute facilitated discussion.

The documentary is also available for free online at https://vimeo.com/266356453.
